Royalists return to Marston Moor

MORE than 100 Royalist troop re-enactors will gather this weekend in a bid to recreate one of the most significant battles of the Civil War.

Marston Grange began welcoming troops yesterday to the historic Battle of Marston Moor site to recreate the encampment and raise money for the MS Society and York Archaeological Trust, a registered educational charity.

There will be battle drill displays and a dance performance from primary school children this afternoon while tomorrow will see a Sealed Knot march leave Long Marston for Tockwith.

The battle was fought on July 2,1644, and led to the Royalists being defeated.
