RSPCA probes dumping of two injured puppies

One of the Staffordshire bull terrier-cross puppies had to be put down after it was found to have such bad eye ulcers it had been blinded, the RSPCA said.

The surviving male puppy, which has been named Piglet, is being treated for an abscess on his back leg. He was also found to have chewed ear tips, a minor umbilical hernia and some fur loss, possibly as a result of mange.

An RSPCA spokesman said: “It was very lucky that even one of the puppies survived, having been dumped so callously.

“The suffering of the puppy found with ruptured eyeballs does not even bear thinking about, and his littermate was not in a much better state.

The RSPCA was alerted after the two brindle-coloured puppies were found in a bag in an area known as Bluebell Woods near Salisbury in Wiltshire on Sunday October 9.

They were rushed to a local vet by the person who found them.
