Rugby star in youth training session

RUGBY league star Robbie Paul is returning to West Yorkshire to encourage young people to take up the sport.

Young people aged between 13 and 18 who attend the Young Batley Centre are to get a once in a lifetime chance to train with the former Bradford Bulls and Huddersfield Giants star.

The former New Zealand international, now playing for Leigh Centurions, will be bringing his rugby training skills to the Young Batley youth club on the evenings of October 18 and October 25 from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Paul gained 28 caps in an international career that spanned from 1997-2006 as a New Zealand half-back. He describes the highlight of his career as being asked to lead the haka before a test match against England in 2004.

He said: "I have always admired the work Young Batley Centre do in engaging the youth – as a father to teenagers I have great belief in the potential of young adults and am passionate about nurturing that enthusiasm, especially when it comes to sport."

Sessions must be booked in advance as they are limited to 20. To book, contact Tahir Khan of the Young People's Service on 01924 326234.
