Run with RL stars and wear shirt with pride

THEY wear Leeds Rhinos replica jerseys with pride round these parts and now diehard fans can get their hands on a special running shirt bearing the club’s name.

The shirts will be pulled on by a select band who line up for the Run with the Rhinos official team in the Jane Tomlinson Run for All Leeds 10k.

Last year 120 ran on behalf of the Rhinos and around 200 are expected to sign up for this year’s 10k on Sunday, July 8.

Sponsorship money will go to the Leeds Rugby Foundation, a charity supporting community projects, and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Former Rhinos player Barrie McDermott, now the club’s head of youth development, has signed up to run the Leeds 10k and current players may follow suit, depending on training commitments.

Leeds Rugby Foundation manager Lucy Young said: “The Run with the Rhinos team have raised an incredible amount over the last two years but we want to make 2012 the biggest year yet.

“We rely on donations to keep our important projects running. By taking part in Run with the Rhinos, not only will fans be completing a personal challenge but they will also be helping us to change even more lives through sport.”

Mike Tomlinson, from Run for All, said: “Each year the Run with the Rhinos gets bigger and better. Let’s hope that in Olympic year we can make it one to remember. We can’t thank the Rhinos enough for their continued support.

“With an aim of raising £5m by next April, runners taking part in Run with the Rhinos will help us get one step closer to that milestone.”
