Runners queue up for festival race

A TOTAL of 300 runners have already signed up to take part in Yorkshire’s newest 10km race.

The Bridlington Festival of Running takes place over the weekend of June 4 and 5 and organisers are hoping as many as 600 runners take part, despite rival events in Hull and Goole.

The Grand Yorkshire starts from the North Promenade at 4pm, wending its way up towards Flamborough before returning to Bridlington.

Sunday’s activities begin at 10.30am, with a 3km fun run along the South Sands and Bridlington’s promenade. It will be followed an hour later by the Beat the Clock Beach Race, described as “an exciting five-a-side beach challenge” for the Ian Orum Trophy.

Saturday’s events are followed by an evening of entertainment at the Spa, with a disco and featuring tribute band the Southmartins.

The event is being run by Leeds-based PB Events, in association with East Yorkshire Events.

Conference and events manager Paul Roggeman is hoping it will provide a boost for the local economy. He said: “It’s a great opportunity to bring new visitors to the area.”
