Runners will provide major charity boost

The event is expected to raise a staggering £1.3m for charities in its first year.

Runners can opt to raise funds for any cause of their choice but are especially encouraged to support one of the event’s partner charities: Martin House Children’s Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, Yorkshire Cancer Research, Parkinson’s UK, the Haven, Clic Sargent, Candlelighters, St Leonard’s Hospice, Sue Ryder Care and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Runners include York mum Laura Clark who is preparing to tackle the event to raise funds for a charity that helped her through the loss of her first child.

When her daughter, Penny, was stillborn, Laura received valuable support from the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS). Now as a thank you she hopes to raise at least £1,000.
