From Russia with love on Space mission

A Russian music fan is travelling more than 2,000 miles to see Nineties chart act Space re-form at a small music festival in North Yorkshire.

The Liverpudlian band, whose hits included Female Of The Species and Neighbourhood, split in 2005 but have been playing shows including the Willowman Festival.

Denis Burov, from Moscow, is making the 2,034-mile journey to Northallerton for this weekend’s event.

The band – whose last top 20 hit was in 1998 – had a cult following in Russia. Mr Burov, who works for a digital media company, said: “Space was one of my favourite bands in the late ’90s.

“I bought my festival tickets and flight tickets and here I am. I am staying in London to catch up with old friends and then I get the train to Yorkshire.”

Other acts playing over the four days include The Wonder Stuff, New Model Army and The Orb Soundsystem.
