Russian stars head to the West as classical concert series unveiled

HULL is rolling out the red carpet for some of Russia’s top musicians and other classical stars as some of the some of the world’s most distinguished orchestras and ensembles come to the city.

Hull City Hall has announced the line up for its new International Masters Series.

Opening the season will be the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio on Tuesday October 19, featuring Alena Baeva, the 24-year-old Russian violinist, one of the most powerful talents of her generation.

Leading Austrian orchestra, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, will be make their first appearance at the venue on Monday November 22.

The Hall will also be return to perform Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Friday January 14, featuring Ilya Gringolts, another young star violinist from Russia.

The curtain goes up on the Vienna Tonknstler Symphony Orchestra, on February 11, when pianist Natasha Paremski will be accompanying the orchestra.

The penultimate concert on Friday May 6 will be the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra. Rounding off the season will be a rare visit from the UK’s Philharmonia Orchestra on Sunday May 29.
