The bowler, a key member of the Yorkshire team that carried off the County Championship for the first time in 13 years, launched the event as the scramble for places for the marathon staged in the memory of Jane Tomlinson CBE, from Leeds, got under way. She raised almost £2m for charity by tackling a series of challenges.

Ryan said: “It is inspiring that thousands of people want to take on the challenge of running 26.2 miles to raise money for so many good causes.”
