Sailing sisters buoy pupils’ spirits

Olympic athletes Lucy and Kate Macgregor, the first British sisters to compete in sailing in the Games this summer, blew away youngsters with a visit to a York school.

Lucy, second left, and Kate, who make up two thirds of the country’s Women’s Match Racing team, are pictured with St Peter’s School pupils Felicity Punnett and Nick Stephen.

The sisters talked to children at the school about their sailing careers, training programme and ultimate goal of gold.

“We were given such a warm welcome and it was a wonderful opportunity for us to fly the flag for British sailing,” Kate said.

“We hope we have given them the inspiration to aim even higher in whatever they do and that we will see some of them competing in the international sporting arena in years to come.” PICTURE: mIKE COWLING
