Santas make summer holiday trip to promote charity jog

EIGHT Santas enjoyed their summer holidays in Sheffield yesterday – relaxing on a temporary beach in the sunshine and taking an impromptu jog around the city’s Peace Gardens.

Although the weather was a little warm for the red suits and white beards, volunteers taking part were prepared to put up with the discomfort to help promote an annual fundraising event.

Each year, the British Heart Foundation organises the Santa Jog around Sheffield city centre, and invites people to sign up for the run, where Father Christmas outfits are compulsory.

Lauren Mallinson, the foundation’s fundraising volunteer manager said: “On the day of the jog, December 11, we’re hoping the weather will be a bit cooler and better for wearing Santa suits.

“Last year we had 400 runners taking part and raised around £10,000 and we are hoping to double both those figures with this year’s jog .”

The jog starts at 11am in Sheffield’s Tudor Square and takes in a half-mile route around the city, past the Town Hall Christmas tree and annual Christmas market.

As well as raising sponsorship, those taking part pay a £10 entry fee which includes a free Santa suit.
