Savile-scandal detectives quiz man in his 80s

A MAN aged in his 80s was interviewed yesterday by detectives investigating the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal, Scotland Yard said.

The suspect, from Berkshire, was questioned for five hours after attending police premises in south London by appointment.

He is being treated as part of the investigation that does not directly relate to Savile, the Metropolitan Police said.

The force also revealed that officers had searched an address in Berkshire on Saturday.

Four arrests had previously been made as part of the national investigation into alleged sexual offences by Savile and others. Gary Glitter, comedian Freddie Starr, DJ Dave Lee Travis and a man in his 70s, reported to be former television producer Wilfred De’Ath, have been arrested and bailed as part of the probe.
