Sawn-off shotgun and cartridges found in drug dealer's home

POLICE officers found a loaded sawn-off shotgun hidden in a wardrobe when they searched the home of a drug dealer.

Suspicions were aroused about Ryan Small's illegal activities after he was seen in Harehills.

Barbara Lennon, prosecuting, told Leeds Crown Court yesterday that three men who appeared to be drug users were seen loitering. One of them walked up the road and then returned and the officers suspected a deal had taken place.

Twenty minutes later another group of three men were seen, one on the phone. Small, who was wearing a distinctive top was spotted leaving a house nearby and walk towards them.

She said it was believed a drug deal took place. When an officer challenged Small, he ran off but was arrested. He was found to have 316.88 in cash and a small amount of cannabis.

His home in Gathorne Terrace, Harehills, was then searched and more cannabis, 170 of cocaine and heroin worth 104 were

found and in the bedroom officers found a 12 gauge shortened shotgun and six cartridges.

Small, 20, was sent to a young offender institution for six years after he admitted possessing heroin, cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply and possessing a prohibited firearm.

Simon Alexander, representing Small, said he was ashamed of the trouble he had brought his family.
