Scandal tour package deal at Profumo country house hotel
It was in the fine surrounds of Cliveden, on the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire border, that Britain's then War Minister Jack Profumo first met 19-year-old party girl Christine Keeler in July 1961, and the two began an illicit relationship. Ms Keeler was also involved with a naval attache at the Soviet Embassy, and the resulting scandal made headlines around the world.
Profumo was forced to resign from Harold Macmillan's Tory government and as an MP in 1963. The country house, on the banks of the River Thames surrounded by a 350-acre estate, has been associated with the affair ever since.
