In results just released, this year’s pass rate at A level was 99%, with 57% of entries achieving one of the top grades A* to B.

Students completing a two-year BTEC National programme also achieved excellent results, with a pass rate of over 99%, and more than 90% of grades being at Distinction or starred-Distinction.

Mr Towse said: “These excellent results show that students have really made the most of the opportunities available to them at the college.

"Students are working hard, making very good progress, and the high grades being achieved mean that they will now be able to move on to their first choice destination, whether it be a good university or a high-quality apprenticeship.

"I am very proud of the college and the quality of teaching and support we provide to enable these results to be achieved.

"Credit is also due to the support of parents, and the work of partner schools to prepare students to step up to advanced studies.

"But just as winning an Olympic medal comes down to the athlete’s efforts, so it is the individual student who has to do the work, meet the challenges of studying, and perform well.

"I am delighted for the success of our students, and they should be deservedly proud of their achievements.”
