Toddler Finley Bryson needed emergency surgery after the mirror, from Wilkinson’s, shattered while Somer snapped selfies with her tot.

The young mother-of-two now demanded the high street chain pay up for the incident, which left her son covered in his own blood.

“I just want compensation for my son – he’s too scared to even look at a mirror now,” said Miss Bryson from her Pavilion Square flat.

The incident happened last October, as Somer and her friend were posing for pictures with the then nine-month-old baby as they were playing with make-up.

But as Finley put his hand on the long mirror, glass unexpectedly shattered everywhere – slicing off the tip of his nose.

“I just panicked – I was screaming, holding him and trying to calm him but the blood just coated him,” added the former Norton College student.

“We had to take him to Scarborough Hospital, then Malton, then York. It was just the worst two days of my life.”

When she went back to complain about the £3.99 mirror she was left open mouthed when a store assistant apparently told her that there had been 15 other models returned – but it hadn’t been discontinued.

She even took pictures of Finley’s wounds as part of her case, contacting a ‘no win, no fee’ solicitor to try to make a claim against the homeware giant. But she says legal action has stalled, almost a year since the incident.

The Yorkshire Post contacted management from the Balmoral Centre, where Somer claims she purchased the mirror, who said they weren’t personally aware of Miss Bryson’s complaint.

But one manager added: “If a customer came in and had a complaint I would have no problem in talking to them about it. But something of this nature would be escalated straight to our head office and wouldn’t be dealt with instore.”

Somer is furious with the firm, adding: “They’ve handled this appallingly. If it was one of their kids something would be done straight away.

Wilkinson’s head office is yet to reply.
