Scheme for homeless claims success

The Homelessness Prevention scheme saw two teams set up in Northallerton and Richmond last February to find permanent homes for single people and families more quickly in a bid to prevent them falling into the trap of homelessness.

So far over 850 referrals have been received and more than 300 households have been supported, according to the charity Foundation, which runs the scheme alongside Hambleton and Richmondshire District Council.

Of those nearly 200 have moved on from the service successfully, with the remainder continuing their support with the scheme.

Meanwhile, planners have delayed their decision over a development which would see as many as 90 homes built on York Road in Easingwold.

Planners fear that the project will not address the critical need for affordable housing for first-time buyers.

Hambleton District Council agreed to probe the issue further at a planning meeting on Thursday.
