School to close after half a century

After 50 years educating pupils, a Hull primary school will close its doors for the final time this summer.

An Open Day for past and present staff, governors and pupils will be held at Bethune Park Primary School on Wednesday May 30 from 2pm to 7.30pm.

The school, which is relocating to a brand new building in September, is appealing for photographs, memorabilia and short anecdotes to display at its Open Day and include in its history.

Once complete, the memories will be made available online.

Headteacher Sue McGlinchey said: “This school has been an important part of the community for 50 years but the time has come for pupils in West Hull to enter a 21st Century learning environment.

“While we are extremely excited to be moving into our brand new school building in September, it is also important that we recognise the history of the current buildings and the fondness that is held for them by past and present pupils and staff.”

The school is moving round the corner into Christopher Pickering Primary School, which will cater for 420 children aged 5 to 11, 48 children up to the age of 5 and 40 hearing impaired pupils.
