School of Health set to move to £5.5m new home across city

The University of Bradford is to move one of its departments to a new home.

Construction firm ISG has secured a 5.5m project with the university to relocate the School of Health Studies from Trinity Road Campus to its central City Campus. The contract will see ISG build a new four-storey concrete frame extension, with a fifth-floor office extension, to the existing Horton A Building, which will also be fully refurbished as part of the development.

The design of the new School of Health building supports the university's Ecoversity sustainable development programme, and incorporates a green sedum roof and solar shading panels as well as high performance building materials to minimise its impact on the environment.

ISG regional director John Gittins said: "Sustainability is a core ISG value and it's particularly pleasing to be working alongside a client with such a strong commitment to the environment.

"The School of Health Studies relocation project is a key note regional development and highlights the University of Bradford's growing confidence at a national level." The project is due to be completed in spring next year.

A suite of simulated practice environments will be used by students undertaking pre and post qualifying health care programmes.

Facilities also include a movement laboratory, a picture archiving and communication systems suite as well as a range of teaching accommodation and student areas.

ISG will also create a new radiography suite in the existing Horton Building. As part of the new build project, the School of Health will invest 500,000 in upgrading equipment.
