School pays tribute after girl, 13, dies from ‘asthma attack’

TRIBUTES have been paid to a “bright and enthusiastic” Leeds schoolgirl who died suddenly after suffering a suspected asthma attack.

Bruntcliffe School pupil Jessica Charlton, 13, was rushed to hospital after paramedics were called to an address in Batley, which the YP understands is the home of her father.

It is believed she may have suffered an asthma attack.

The ambulance service were called just before 1pm on Sunday and battled to save Jessica before she was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital.

She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Devastated classmates at Bruntcliffe School in Morley were told of the tragedy at a special assembly this week.

In a statement yesterday, Bruntcliffe School headteacher Heather Scott said: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of such a beautiful young girl.

“Jessica was a bright enthusiastic student who always wanted to please.

“She was a high achieving student who always put 100 per cent effort into her work.

“She was extremely well liked amongst both staff and her peers and will be greatly missed by all at Bruntcliffe School.”

A permanent memorial is now being planned at the school to remember Jessica.

Mrs Scott added: “As a school we have already held an assembly to announce her death and to support our young people as they come to terms with this tragedy.

Students will be consulted about how best we should remember her with a permanent memorial in due course.

“We all pass on our thoughts and condolences to her close family and friends at what is such a difficult time.”
