School pupils kept inside as knife-wielding woman makes threats at gates

A woman armed with a knife made threats outside a Leeds school as children were about to leave for the day.

Police were called to a McColl’s store, in Broadgate Lane, Horsforth, after staff witnessed the woman being loud and abusive with the weapon in her hand at the shop yesterday at around 2.15pm.

Officers rushed to the scene and asked for staff at St Margaret’s C
of E Primary School to keep children inside until she had been arrested.

Linda Rose, supervisor at the store, said: “It wasn’t frightening for me, I was just more concerned with her being there in front of the children coming out of school.

“I had visions of her running round with a knife.”

She said the woman had entered the store claiming she had already thrown a brick through the window of her intended victim’s house and was going to stab them as they left school with their children.

Around 10 police attended the scene wearing stab-proof vests before detaining the woman.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “It was a female who did have a knife and was making threats that she was going to stab somebody – we believe she was either drunk or on drugs.”

A woman is in police custody.
