School searches for former pupils

A NORTH Yorkshire school which has been serving its local community for more than 450 years and is one of the oldest in the country, is trying to trace former pupils.

Ripon Grammar School, which dates back to the 16th century, merged with Ripon Girls’ High School half a century ago, and has now launched an appeal to trace all former students of the girls’ school to mark the anniversary later this year.

Headmaster Martin Pearman said: “Ripon Grammar School is one of the oldest schools in the country and with a long and proud history.

“We are looking to re-acquaint ourselves as a school with former students across the generations at a special event in July and to mark the 50th anniversary, we are hoping to mount a photographic exhibition and feature some case studies of memories at school during 1962.”

One former pupil who has already contacted the school is Bess Fai (formerly Westwick) who attended from 1935 to 1940 and, having married a Canadian airman, now lives in British Columbia.

Former staff and pupils can contact Jackie Dawson on 01765 602647 or email [email protected].
