Schoolgirl, 14, hit by car dies

The 14-year-old was hit on Saturday night in New Addington, south London, and died shortly after midnight in hospital.

Scotland Yard said the driver of the car, a 35-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in police custody.

The girl was hit at around 7.30pm on Saturday.

She was taken to Kings College Hospital in south east London where she died at 00.20am yesterday.

A post-mortem examination is due to be held today.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision.
