Science gallery experience is weird and wonderful

A new £1.8m interactive gallery featuring unique scientific exhibitions has been launched in Yorkshire.

The Wonderlab, based at the National Science and Media Museum, opens this weekend and gives visitors the chance to try more than 20 permanent exhibits.

The gallery explores the science of light, sound and perception through hands-on activities and shows at the newly-renamed museum in Bradford. Visitors will be able to turn their entire body into a corkscrew on a giant screen, take a selfie showing their face through a drop of water and shout into a colossal echo tube the length of an articulated lorry.

Other exhibits include a 6ft sphere with recordings of the surface of the sun and earth, an 8ft-tall mirror maze and a musical laser tunnel entrance.

Jo Quinton-Tulloch, museum director, said: “The future for our museum is incredibly exciting and I know Wonderlab will amaze visitors young and old, as it has us.”

The free-entry gallery officially launches this weekend with activities and events on offer for visitors.

Organisers have recommended that visitors book in advance at www.scienceandmediamuseum.org.uk/wonderlab.
