Scientist with ‘perverse sexual intent’ struck off over secret filming

A SCIENTIST studying at a medical school in Yorkshire has been struck off after he secretly recorded housemates on video in their shared bathroom.

A conduct and competence committee panel of the Health and Care Professions Council heard Adam Cutler went on to try to sabotage an investigation into the episode in which he was described as having “perverse sexual intent”.

A hearing was told Cutler was studying at Hull York Medical School when he placed a convert camera in the bathroom of his shared accommodation on a number of occasions to film his housemates.

He later attempted to conceal his actions by deleting the images from the camera when it was discovered by a housemate.

The biomedical scientist subsequently tried to sabotage a fitness to practise investigation by the medical school by resetting dates on his laptop computer before deleting the relevant files.

He also supplied a laptop computer to the medical school that was different to that he had given to the police to investigate the episode, the panel heard.

Panel chairman Elizabeth Carmichael said: “Whilst the panel did take into account Mr Cutler’s youth and the indication that he may have been suffering some stress at the time, it is clear nevertheless to the panel that he committed serious misconduct over an extended period of time.

“Mr Cutler had clearly abused the trust of his housemates, he had been deliberately and seriously dishonest with the university authorities and the panel believes that his actions had a perverse sexual intent.

“There is no indication of insight and there is continuing denial on Mr Cutler’s part.”

The panel decided its most appropriate action was to strike him from the register and put an interim suspension order in place to cover the appeal period.

Cutler was not present or represented at the hearing which was held in Cardiff.
