Scientists uncover diabetes clues

Scientists in Boston, Massachusetts, have uncovered 13 new genetic mutations that influence the biology at the heart of type 2 diabetes.

Five of the variants increase the risk of developing the disease, which affects more than two million people in the UK.

It is hoped the findings will help specialists to gain a better understanding of the disease and find ways to cope with it.
