Sea fort venue for Charlatans

Indie rockers The Charlatans are to play a one-off gig on a tiny fort in the middle of the sea as a festival warm-up.

Tim Burgess and Mark Collins will perform on privately owned Spitbank Fort, recently converted to an exclusive venue about one mile from the coast of Portsmouth.

The show is a warm-up for the Isle of Wight Festival and to celebrate 15 years since The Charlatans released their Tellin’ Stories album.

Burgess said: “One-off gigs are often in pretty cool venues but this might just top the lot: a fort in the sea to keep Napoleon out. I had to look it up and it’s even crazier than I’d imagined. Mark and I can’t wait.”

The June 21 gig is organised by Absolute Radio.
