Search to find young stars goes on tour

THE SEARCH to honour Yorkshire’s most courageous children will take to Leeds, Harrogate, Sheffield and York this month.

Organisers of the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards have already received a host of nominations through their website, but in a bid to draw in more tales of inspiration youngsters, they are taking the hunt on the road.

October will see the fourth time the St James Place Foundation have hosted the awards, which honour the courageous youngsters while raising money to help disadvantaged and disabled young people. The Foundation is the charitable arm of the St James Place wealth management company, and has raised more than £34m over the last 22 years.

The nomination tour begins today, at a charity firewalk event hosted by award sponsor Ascensor in Birstall. Next week, nominations can be made at Harrogate’s Moda in Pelle store on Tuesday, and at Sheffield’s Meadowhall on Thursday.

On Saturday, August 23, it will be at Browns in York and on Thursday August 28, at headline sponsor Arrow Cars at Leeds Bradford Airport.

Stephen Mitchell, representative of the St James’s Place Foundation Committee’s Leeds office said: “Whilst we have received a substantial number of nominations already, we welcome as many as possible and see all this as a major opportunity to raise awareness of the YCCA and ultimately to generate more funds for the St. James’s Place Foundation.”

Nominations in categories including young carer, outstanding bravery, and sporting achievement, close on September 1.
