Police are trying to trace a man who went to the aid of a woman after she was sexually assaulted in York.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, August 5, at the Holiday Inn on Tadcaster Road in the city.

North Yorkshire Police say the man, who is thought to have been a guest at the hotel, found the 32-year-old victim following the attack and provided reassurance until further help arrived.

Officers are stressing that he is not a suspect in the case but may have “important information” that could assist their investigation.

A CCTV image has been issued of the man, who on the night in question was wearing blue jeans, a light-coloured short-sleeved shirt and dark-rimmed glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to ring police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
