Search for York soldier: Body is pulled from river

POLICE searching for missing York soldier Tyler Pearson have found a body in the River Ouse.

Officers were called by a member of the public just after 11am today and fire crews helped recover the body, near Skeldergate Bridge.

Insp Jon Hodgeon of North Yorkshire Police said: “We have had a report from a member of the public who has seen a body in the river. Fire rescue service have quickly assisted with the recovery.”

The family of 18 year-old Signaller Pearson have been informed of the discovery. He was seen to enter the water after a night out with friends.

Two other young people have died in York’s rivers this year. The body of Megan Roberts, 20, a student at York St John University, was found further down the Ouse last month. Police believe she fell in while under the influence of alcohol on a night out.

Ben Clarkson, 22, a former student at the university, disappeared after a night out with a colleague in York on March 1 and his body was found in the River Foss on March 21.
