This year will also see the introduction of a new award, the Sue Ryder Outstanding Contribution Award. This recognises an individual or organisation in the Yorkshire area who has made an outstanding contribution to Sue Ryder. Nominees in this category will have made an outstanding contribution to their local care centre, shop or Sue Ryder as a whole.

Leanne Owen who was last year’s winner of the Jane Tomlinson Courage Award was an operational firefighter until aged 42 she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. In 2016 she set herself the target of raising £1,000 by cycling 477 miles during Parkinson’s Awareness Week and managed to raise £10,000 for the charity.

She said: “Winning the award made me realise that living day to day with Parkinson’s is a constant battle, one I face each day head on.” Do you know anyone deserving of an award? For more information contact Pete Watson on 0113 2033302 or visit www.sueryder.org/YWOA
