Search for theatre board chairman

THEATRE bosses are looking for a new chairman of a board of trustees after a Sheffield University academic moved to a Midlands city.

Dominic Shellard recently left his post to take up the role of vice chancellor at Leicester’s De Montfort University, meaning Sheffield Theatres Trust needs a new leader.

The trust oversees the work of the Crucible, Studio and Lyceum theatres, which present and produce a diverse programme of work from ballet to opera and Shakespeare.

Recent figures revealed that last year over 300,000 people attended the theatres, while more than 12,000 young people and adults were offered a chance to participate in the arts.

But there are fears that forthcoming funding cuts being prepared as part of next month’s Government spending review could impact on the theatres’ work, presenting potential challenges.

A spokesman said: “The role requires an individual who will act as leader and a spokesman for the organisation, and someone who understands and is passionate about the work of Sheffield Theatres.”
