Mr Saunderson-Smith had been battered over the head and died as a result of an injury to the brain.

Police forensic teams found £150,000 in cash in plastic bags at the property developer’s two London homes – in Dewhurst Road and in nearby Sedlescombe Road.

Mydlarz is due to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, police said.

The arrest follows an Old Bailey appearance last Tuesday by Slawomir Bugajewski, a Polish builder who is also accused of the murder. Bugajewski, 38, of Braid Avenue, Acton, west London, appeared by video-link and was remanded to another hearing at the end of February.

No application was made for bail.
