Seized crime cash aids rugby team

The Bingley-based Bumble Bees Barbarians, England's only integrated mixed ability rugby team playing contact rugby union, received 500 from West Yorkshire Police after they took on the force's rugby team in a charity scrum down. The match, at the Bradford and Bingley ground, ended 26-20 to the home team.

West Yorkshire Police donated the money from a scheme which uses cash seized from criminals to fund community projects in areas affected by crime.

The Bumble Bees Barbarians include players with learning and physical disabilities as well as volunteers who also play while coaching the team during the game.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Gilmore said: "It was a closely fought match, with each team providing challenges for the other.

"This is a good example of how cash seized from criminals can help a community project and it's been my pleasure to hand over the money which will benefit local people."
