Selfridges to be
prosecuted over
‘raw’ milk sales

Selfridges and a Sussex farmer are to be prosecuted for selling “raw” milk in the department store’s food hall, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said.

The FSA began an investigation after Selfridges installed vending machines selling unpasteurised milk supplied by farmer Stephen Hook in 2011.

It announced yesterday that the store and Mr Hook would be prosecuted for breaches of food hygiene regulations.

The FSA said: “Summons have been served to both parties and a hearing date has been set for February 6 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.”

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, unpasteurised cows’ milk can only be sold direct to consumers from farms or the farmer, including farmers’ markets.
