Senior managers face council axe

The number of senior managers at Kirklees Council is set to be cut, it was announced.

Council chiefs say overall budgets need to be reduced by around 20 per cent to deal with the expected squeeze on public spending after the General Election later this year.

Yesterday the authority said it plans to reduce the number of directors from six to four, and the numbers of heads of service from 29 to 19. It had already announced that staffing levels will be reduced from 11,200 to 9,700 over the next three years.
