Serial offender threw chair at judge

A MAN with an appalling criminal record was jailed for 20 months yesterday for a string of offences including throwing a chair at a judge.

Mark Harte, 30, of Rookwood Avenue, Leeds, was said to have one of the worst records Judge Christopher Batty had ever

seen when he appeared before him at Leeds Crown Court yesterday.

Harte had committed 170 offences including drugs and firearms convictions dating back to 1992.

Prosecutor Freddy Apfel told the court the defendant was being sentenced for his latest raft of offences including common assault, driving while disqualified, burglary of a Meanwood hairdressers, threatening behaviour and contempt of court.

The last offence occurred in August when he threw a chair at Recorder Rodney Jameson, QC, in a fit of frustration and also began fighting with dock officers.

In mitigation, James Keely, said: "He has many lessons to learn but hopefully it's not as bad as it might be.''

Judge Batty said: ''Not everything is everybody else's fault. I sincerely and genuinely hope I never see you again."
