‘Serious head trauma’ killed voyeur, 73, found dead in prison cell

A 73-year-old prisoner – serving a nine-month sentence for voyeurism – has died in Lincoln Prison from a serious head trauma, police said.

A murder investigation was launched after Alan Goode, a serial peeping tom, was found dead in his cell at 5.45am on Thursday.

Goode was jailed in October after he was found lying on a cubicle floor in the women’s toilets of a Leicester shopping centre.

A 35-year-old male inmate – understood to have been sharing a cell with him – was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been bailed from police custody back to prison for psychological assessments to be carried out, Lincolnshire Police said.

A Home Office post mortem established a serious head trauma was the cause of the death.

Detective Inspector Helen Evans said: “We continue to work with HMP Lincoln and the Ministry of Justice to further our investigation.”

Goode admitted voyeurism and breaching a sexual offences prevention order which was imposed in 2009 and banned him from loitering near or entering female toilets for five years, according to reports.

While jailing Goode for nine months, Judge Robert Brown at Leicester Crown Court also extended the order – banning him from ladies’ lavatories for the rest of his life.

He had previously been jailed for nine months for again flouting the banning order, by spending 90 minutes in the toilets at John Lewis in Leicester.

Goode was also given suspended jail sentences for two earlier incidents of voyeurism in bars.

Last December, prison inspectors produced a damning report into safety standards at overcrowded HMP Lincoln.
