Services could share building in city

A crime reduction partnership could share quarters with the police and fire service in a city centre location.

The former Kwik Save store, in Pryme Street, Hull, is one of three locations being considered as a base for Citysafe, which runs a number of council services including licensing, CCTV and pest control. A city centre neighbourhood policing team will also need premises with the imminent closure of Queens Gardens Police Station, as will a city centre-based fire engine.

Officials are also looking at using the fire station on Worship Street and redeveloping the offices facing Kingston Square. A third possibility is a new building on the Francis Street car park – recently subject of an unsuccessful bid to build a hostel for the homeless.

A report to Hull Council's Community Safety Overview and Scrutiny Commission says Citysafe is spread across multiple locations and ideally needs to be in a single place to provide services "that are joined up and will provide significant cost savings through business efficiencies."
