Seven in court over Leeds World Cup pub killing

A 25-year-old man was remanded in custody today charged with the manslaughter of a football fan who was attacked outside a pub after England's first World Cup match.

Robert Wilson, 44, died in hospital 11 days after he was seriously injured outside the Skyrack, on St Michael's Road in Headingley, Leeds, shortly before 11pm on June 12, following the match between England and the USA.

Mr Wilson, of West Park, Leeds, suffered serious head injuries when he was punched to the ground by another man, police have said.

Today, Christopher Perry appeared before District Judge Roy Anderson at Leeds Magistrates' Court charged with manslaughter and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Perry, of Shadwell Walk, Leeds, was remanded in custody and was told he will appear again at Leeds Crown Court on July 8.

Six other people also appeared before Mr Anderson today charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in relation to the same incident.

They were: John Brennan, 25, of Germaine Terrace, Thorner, near Leeds; Simon Cohen, 23, of Woodland Court, Leeds; Francesca Kelly, 21, of North Park Grove, Leeds; Jacqueline Kelly, 50, of North Park Grove, Leeds; Laura Lim, 32, of Bradford Road, Birstall, West Yorkshire; and William Pickard, 25, of Fernway, Seacroft, Leeds.

An application to remand these six in custody was refused and they were released on conditional bail.

They were told they will also appear at Leeds Crown Court on July 8.

Police launched a murder inquiry after Mr Wilson died in Leeds General Infirmary on June 23.

In a statement released after Mr Wilson's death, his partner Jacqueline Cocker said: "Robert was a quiet man and he had a good sense of humour.

"He liked his football and rugby and he was excited about going out to watch the England game."
