FAMILY: Jorvik Medieval Festival

York turns medieval with a special programme of events. From celebrations of the Magna Carta and Agincourt to talks on the legacy and interment of Richard III and a programme of living history displays and reenactments, this family friendly festival will be split across a number of venues.

MUSIC: North York Moors Chamber Music Festival

The annual festival which sees leading musicians perform in North Yorkshire churches is back. This year’s event will see a world premiere from festival patron Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. The Master of the Queen’s Music will perform at St Martin-on-the-Hill in Scarborough on August 22 and will also be in residence throughout the event.

THEATRE: Heartbreak Productions

Heartbreak Productions two outdoor shows to Yorkshire this summer. The company will be staging the Jane Austen classic Emma in Leeds and Sheffield, while Sandal Castle provides the backdrop for Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost, which is transported to the Roaring Twenties.

new musical featuring the music of Elvis Presley and starring the award winning and platinum album selling singer Mica Paris. In a small town in 1950s America, a guitar-playing stranger rides his motorbike into town and leaves with more than he bargained for. PERFORMANCE: Rugby Songs

Celebrating the fan and national songs of the great game, this new show by Leeds theatre company Slung Low, has been created to build momentum to the forthcoming Rugby World Cup. Reliving the tackles, the teams, the fans and the songs, tales of passion and personality, it also promises to reveal why England rugby crowds sing Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.

MUSIC: Tribfest

The world’s biggest festival dedicated to tribute bands returns for its ninth year. This year’s line-up includes tributes to Bruce Springsteen, U2, The Killers and Kings of Leon. Stretching over four days for the first time and with a 5,000-strong crowd, it should be a memorable weekend of music.

EVENT: Ebor Festival

The oldest, richest, fastest, and most famous races return to York. The four-day horse racing festival will feature the Juddmonte International on Wednesday, ranked as the best race in the world by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, Thursday is Ladies’ Day, while Saturday sees the Betfred Ebor, the oldest and richest flat handicap in Europe.
