Sewerage system repairs under way

IMPROVEMENT works costing half a million pounds will begin today on a sewerage system in Bolsover, Chesterfield.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Water said there had been a “number of pollution incidents” at the site near Station Road in recent years, because of bricks becoming lodged in the system.

It has since been discovered that some of the Victorian brick pipes have fallen into disrepair and, as a result, Yorkshire Water is replacing a 72-metre section of sewer under Station Road and Townend and relining a further 397 metres of piping.

Laura Harrison from Yorkshire Water said: “This vital improvement work will significantly reduce the risk of sewer flooding to the local watercourse or indeed local properties and ensure that are pipes remain robust and in good condition for many years to come.

“Obviously any work of this nature is always likely to result in some disruption, but local residents have been very supportive so far.

“We want to reassure them that we’ll do everything we can to reduce disruption and get everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”
