Sex attack on teenager in city alleyway

Within hours, North Yorkshire detectives were hunting for the man who attacked the 18-year-old in the alleyway off Coney Street.

The scene of the assault, which happened some time between 2am and 4.20am, was sealed off while forensic experts searched for evidence.

Detective Inspector Steve Smith, of York CID, said: "The victim has been left very shocked and upset by the ordeal and she is receiving support from specially trained officers.

"Her care is of paramount importance in this investigation."

Her attacker is described as white, between 5ft 8in and 6ft tall, skinny and with short dark hair.

He was wearing a T-shirt and jeans, officers said.
