Shadow Cabinet: Winterton to take over Harman's role

FORMER Yorkshire Minister Rosie Winterton has been promoted into the Shadow Cabinet in a minor reshuffle while the Labour leadership contest takes place.

Ms Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central, becomes Shadow Leader of the House after Harriet Harman became stand-in leader following Gordon Brown's resignation.

Before the election she had been Minister for Regional Economic Development as well as being Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber.

Among the other changes, Sadiq Khan becomes Shadow Transport Secretary and Pat McFadden becomes Shadow Business Secretary – positions which had been held by peers Lord Adonis and Lord Mandelson – so they can take on their Government counterparts in the House of Commons.

Ms Winterton said: "I'll be looking to work very hard to use the time to hold the Government to account."
