THE body responsible for protecting children in Kirklees has abandoned plans to publish more details of a report into the case of abducted Dewsbury schoolgirl Shannon Matthews.
An executive summary of the serious case review was published in 2010 and the Kirklees Safeguarding Children Board had intended to publish a fuller version with certain details removed to protect other children from the family,
But yesterday, the Board said any version of the report would allow individual children to be identified and make details of their private lives public.
Shannon’s disappearance in 2008 triggered a police hunt ending with her discovery at the home of Michael Donovan, her stepfather’s uncle. Donovan and Shannon’s mother Karen were subsequently jailed for kidnap.
