A FIRE at a Sheffield home spread to three neighbouring properties this morning (Wednesday).

The blaze broke out in the loft space at a house on Leighton Road at 9.15am, and spread through the roof void, affecting three further adjacent properties.

Firefighters with four fire engines and a turntable ladder tackled the blaze, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

After initial fears that people may be trapped inside, everyone was quickly accounted for and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the blaze.

Fire engines from Birley Moor, Parkway and Central fire stations attended, plus the Red Cross fire victim support unit, which provided assistance to residents who were displaced by the fire.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.
