Sheffield publican to join judging panel at major beer festival

A former South Yorkshire publican is to join the judging panel of a national beer competition after winning the honour in a competition.

Brian Morrisey, from High Green in Sheffield, will join around 80 judges at The Society of Independent Brewers’ (SIBA) BeerX festival in Sheffield this week.

The 62-year-old said: “I love real ales and I’m really looking forward to tasting some new beers. Although I must confess it was my wife who entered me for the competition knowing I’d love to take part - and I have to say, she was right”

Mr Morrisey has been around the pub industry since childhood thanks to family ties. He worked in his uncle’s High Green pub part-time during his sixth form studies and kept an interest in his following years as a national account managers for Tetley Tea until taking the plunge as pub landlord himself.

He will join the judging panel at SIBA’s BeerX festival at iceSheffield this week. National beer competition winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on the Tuesday evening, which is open to the public.
