Sheffield Wednesday v Millwall: Two trams wrecked by football fans

FOOTBALL fans caused significant damage to two Supertram vehicles in Sheffield after the game between Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough at the weekend.

South Yorkshire Police said the damage was caused by a number of football supporters after the Owls beat the visiting side 3-2.

Damage to the trams includes broken doors and smashed windows.

Footage of one of the trams being wrecked has also appeared on the YouTube website.

The police said no-one was injured during the incident on Saturday.

A spokesman said: “Following the football match, four people were arrested for public order-related offences, following damage to two trams.

“One tram was travelling towards Hillsborough and the other was returning to the city centre.

“South Yorkshire Police have launched a full investigation into this incident.”

Any witnesses are being is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101.

It is understood that, of the four people arrested, two are Millwall supporters and one is a Sheffield Wednesday fan.
