Shipley man named as dead motorcyclist in Clapham collision

Police have named the motorcyclist who died following a collision near Clapham, North Yorkshire, as Giovanni Richetta of Shipley.

The 52-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on collision with a car on Valentine’s Day.

He was driving a red, old-style Moto Guzzi motorcyle on the A65 between Austwick and Clapham in the Craven district when a collision occurred involving a blue Peugeot 206 heading in the opposite direction at 12.10pm.

North Yorkshire Police said the coroner has opened an investigation into Mr Richetta’s death and an inquest will be opened in due course.

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information about the collision. The motorcyclist was wearing a black motorcycle suit and a distinctive white helmet with red and green stripes from the Italian flag.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 43-year-old woman from Keighley, and her nine-year-old daughter who was in the front passenger seat, were taken to Airedale General Hospital by ambulance for treatment to injuries described as “not serious”.

The section of road was closed for five hours on Sunday while a full collision investigation was carried out at the scene and to allow for the vehicles to be recovered.
