shock figuresacross region

A shocking 61 per cent of nurses in Yorkshire and the Humber region say they do not have enough time to screen people in later life for malnutrition.

And 72 per cent of nurses polled in the Yorkshire and Humber area claim there are barriers to screening in their hospitals with lack of time (61 per cent), other tasks taking priority (45 per cent) and not enough training (37 per cent) being the most common constraints.

Less than half of hospitals (47 per cent) in the area screen older patients for malnutrition on admission to hospital and only 38 per cent during their stay.

The research for Age UK, carried out by ICM, shows that just 49 per cent of nurses in Yorkshire and the Humber think that their hospital screens older in-patients often enough.
